FAQ

1 “Project Settings” can not be opened
A: Please check the Sketchup version, of which just support for 2019 and above only.
2 “Generating Terrain”is not available
A: When importing contour topographic maps, the following settings should be made and pay attention to its unit.

3 Terrain edge border range is not available?
A: The polylines need to intersect with contour lines.
4 My computer did not produce a disk character after the encrypted dog was inserted.
A: The encryption dogs are only use for encryption and cannot be used as USB drives.
5 After the contour line is imported to the Sketchup, the contour line group is too high from the ground.
A: There may be two reasons:

(1) There are wrong lines and points in the contour line, so it is recommended to re-import after deletion.

(2) When drawing area polylines on contour lines, it is recommended to set the elevation within the contour elevation range (not necessary).
6 After importing contour lines, surfaces cannot be normally generated
A: The possible reason is that the global line width and thickness of the CAD contour lines are not zero. Just set this to zero.
7 After importing the CAD file, the lines are not all in the first quadrant and some layers are misplaced.
A: It may be the perspective view of Sketchup has been opened.

8 I can generate terrain, perform sunshine, mountain and auxiliary analysis, but cannot do the partition automatically or manually.
A: You can use the “tape measure” tool to measure the size of the mountain. If the size is too small, it is usually due to an error in selecting the unit of length when importing the DWG file.
9 There is a deviation between the mountain generated and the DWG contour lines.
A: Because “keep drawing origin” is checked when importing DWG contour lines, it should be removed.

10 The contour lines map can be opened in the CAD, but only a few lines appear after imported in the Sketchup.
A: Check the coordinate system of the contour lines map, generally because the X Y coordinate system is longitude and latitude coordinate system.
11 The color of sunshine analysis, terrain analysis and auxiliary analysis is very light, as shown below:
A: Check whether there are dotted lines in the SU figure (as above), if there are, double-click the mouse in the Sketchup space to make the color return to normal.

12 Error occurs while installing the CAD plug-in; re-install the new version of the plug-in is still incorrect.
A: It is recommended to delete the reported plug-in source file first, then reinstall the new version with the “netload” command.
13 When the satellite map is imported directly from the Sketchup by adding a geographical location, the satellite map datum is deviated.
A: When adding geographical location, enter latitude and longitude. After clicking “search “, zooming the map by “+-” instead of using mouse wheel in the map.

14 Need to add a disabled area after layout has been completed, how to operate easily?
A : (1) Add a new layer in CAD file of which is prepare to export to Sketchup (e.g. a new disabled area), which places new added disabled areas (must be a closed polyline).

(2) Save the new disabled area and contour lines layer (or only keep the left and bottom contour lines) as a new DWG file with the “wblock” command.

(3) Import the above CAD file into the Sketchup. The layers that are repeatedly imported will be replaced automatically.

(4) In the Candela 3D “Road creation” interface, select “New Disable Area” and check “Clear the PV Array Along the Road” to automatically delete the PV array in the newly disable area in the original layout.

Note: this operation will clear the original generated three-dimensional road, if you need to restore, after the completion of the above operation, re-select the corresponding road layer to generate the road.
15 One side of two disabled areas overlaps. After importing to the Sketchup, marking disabled area is failed. How to deal with this problem?
A :
(1) Suppose there are two layers: DGX and disabled area 1, and the two areas in disabled area 1 overlap as above;
(2) Add a new layer (e.g. disable area 2) and place one of the two areas which the edges overlap onto the disabled area 2 layer.
(3) Refer to the previous section, save DGX and disabled area 1 as CAD file 1 with the “WBlock” command. Save DGX and disabled area 2 as CAD file 2.
(4) Import the CAD file 1 into Sketchup and generate the terrain. Select the Disable Area 1 layer and mark it as the Disable Area.
(5) Delete the Disable Area 1 layer in Skeychup.
(6) Import CAD file 2 into Sketchup. Select Disable Area 2 and mark it as the Disable Area.
Note:
  • The reason why both the imports have DGX layers is under the assumption that the left-most and lower-most elements in the CAD file are DGX elements when the project is designed.
  • When you import the Sketchup for the second time, polylines in the “Disable Area 2” layer that may be imported will not be displayed. Try to open/close the “Build Ground “page.

  • 16 How do I check that all available/disabled areas are marked successfully?
A: After marking is complete, only the marked layer is opened in the Sketchup (e.g. road). If there is a black line, the polyline area marking is unsuccessful. The following figure is a successful example of marking.

*Note: If the available/disabled area is not displayed, open the “Build Ground” interface, select the “Mouse Free Click” and click the “Mark” to display.
17 When importing contour line map to SketchUp, the program stuck no response.
A: Install Candela3d_cad_plugin 1.0.4 or above version, and enter “pline3trans” to convert all 3D poly lines to polylines.

  • What is the solution to Sketchup startup Times error when the windows user name is Chinese?
  • A: In general, you can refer to the following links for processing:
    https://jingyan.baidu.com/article/20b68a889f9e44796cec6284.html
You can also refer to the following:
    http://www.sketchupvray.com/7896.html
For individual cases (user name is in English, but c :\ user  folder is in Chinese), the following steps are required:
    (1) Enter the command line in administrator mode

    (2) Opening of the administrator account

    (3) After you log off the computer, log in with the administrator account
    (4)Unload Sketchup and reinstall it.
(5)Next time you use Sketchup, log in with the administrator account.
19 My project is on a very flat place but the analysis of sunshine availability is zero?
A: The possible reason is that in the project settings, the latitude and longitude are reversed.
20 When I marked the available area, the software crashed out?
A: Check that whether the available area is marked in the 0 layer. The whole process of using this program, do not place the relevant polylines or centerline in the 0 layer.
21 Crash when importing CAD drawings into SKETCHUP
Answer: The “DGX” layer or other layers in the imported CAD have polyline segments with 3D attributes. You need to use the “pline3trans” command in the CAD plug-in for Candela3D to convert the 3D polyline into a polyline.

22 Using the “gdwg” command in CAD, it prompts "The format of the selected c2c file is incorrect, please check"

Answer: The selected file is a c2c file generated by "gc2c" in CAD. When using "gdwg", you need to select the c2c file generated by the "Export CAD drawing" function in the Candela3D SU plug-in.

23 Using the "gdwg" command in CAD, it prompts "The number of data columns should be 5 or 6 columns"
Answer: The Candela3D Sketchup plug-in version used is inconsistent with the CAD plug-in version, and the CAD plug-in version needs to be updated to the latest version.

24 After using the "import layout" function of the Candela3D SKETCHUP plug-in, the direction of the generated array is disordered and there are obvious errors
Answer: The attribute of the array block captured by the Candela 3D plug-in in CAD is three-dimensional. This situation may be because the array layout may be exported by other three-dimensional software. At present, the attribute of the "gc2c" function block in CAD must be two-dimensional

25 When marking prohibited areas, marking high-voltage transmission corridors is invalid
Answer: When marking the forbidden area, if the layer is used to mark, there must be only closed polylines in the layer, and if the centerline is used to mark, there must be only straight lines or line segments in the layer.
26 When using the "Terrain Generation" function after selecting "Generation Range", Sketchup gets stuck and crashes
Answer: The graphics in the layer selected in "Generation Range" are not closed polylines.
27 The imported contours are not displayed when the CAD is imported again
Answer: After importing CAD once and generating a terrain model, Candela 3D will turn off the "dgx" layer by default. After importing CAD for the second time, you need to turn on the contour layer in "Markers".
28 The imported CAD graphics are too small/too large or the total area displayed in the sunshine analysis (mountain analysis) is too small/too large
Answer: The unit is not set in the import option or the unit is set incorrectly. See section 5.5.2 for details.
29 After marking the disabled and usable area, it can no longer be manually partitioned
Answer: The area may be marked as disabled and available at the same time. In this case, available-disable=0, so manual partitioning is not possible.
30 The “checkpoly” check in the CAD drawing did not report an error, why after importing it to Sketchup to generate the terrain, in the marked disabled area, it prompts “part of the polyline is not closed”?
Answer: There may be two situations that cause the above reasons:

    (1) During checkpoly, the default closing tolerance “0.1” (it has been changed to 0.0001 after CAD plug-in version 1.0.9) cannot be detected, and the closing tolerance needs to be reduced to “0.0001”.

    (2) If the above does not solve the existing problems, there may be interference layers in the CAD and the interference layers partially overlap with this layer. After importing Sketchup, the graphics in one layer are retained by default. At this time, delete the overlapping graphics in the interference layer in CAD.
